I have often heard people say that “the only good snake is a dead snake”. I understand that a lot of people do not like snakes, but some snakes are considered beneficial. I am quite sure that one would much rather have an Eastern King Snake (non-venomous) in their yard, rather than a Copperhead, or an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. King snakes are considered beneficial because they keep the bad / poisonous snakes under control. King Snakes are considered constrictors, and will win pretty much every fight they get into with any of the venomous snakes. King Snakes are also immune to the venom of rattlesnakes and copperheads.
Not only do King Snakes keep venomous snakes under control, but they also work with other snakes to keep rodent populations under control. They eat rats, mice, and other rodents that can cause potential damage and health risks to our homes, crops, etc.
You should also know that in some states, such as Georgia, it is illegal to kill non-venomous snakes.
Keep these things in mind before indiscriminately killing any snakes you might find in your yard.
