A couple of years ago, I read an article that was referencing the top 3 states for termite activity, damage, and claims. The info was collected by a group of insurance companies. I found it odd, being that insurance companies / home owners insurance does not cover termite damage and claims. I suppose that most people probably initially call the insurance company, before being given the bad news that they’re not covered.
The top 3 states were Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana. Every year or two, these states seems to shift back and forth as far as who is number 1, number 2, etc. I don’t know about you, but that’s not really a statistic that I would be very happy about or proud of.
If you are in one of the above 3 mentioned states, you are basically in the hot zone. If you have not had your house treated for termites, or haven’t done it in recent years, I strongly suggest getting a preventative treatment done. I have heard many people balk at the cost of a termite treatment, but a treatment can be just a small fraction of what repairs may cost, should you develop a termite infestation. I have literally seen some people just abandon and walk away from their homes because the damage was so extensive, and the repairs would literally cost more than what the house was worth.
