Can ants live in the walls of my house? Yes, they can.
It’s estimated that there are more than 12,000 species of ants world-wide, and about 1,000 species in the United States. With all of these different ant species comes different sizes, different colors, different habits, different food preferences, and different habitats.
Although these types of ants mainly live outdoors, the carpenter ants, the crazy ant, and the odorous house ant have been known to establish colonies inside of homes. The colonies can be within wall voids, or even under flooring / carpet.
Knowing that ants can establish themselves indoors is important in terms of deciding what type of treatment approach to take. If ants are living in your walls and you try to treat them by applying a pesticide product around the outside perimeter of your home, do you think your treatment will be effective? Probably not. If the ants have a colony in the ground outside of your home, and they are getting into your home through a crack in the window, do you think that applying pesticides within your wall voids will be effective? No…probably not.
Knowing what type of ant you are dealing with, and their habits, can be crucial to successfully getting rid of them.
