You probably know, and have heard countless people say that termites eat wood. It’s pretty common knowledge, right? Did you know that termites don’t actually eat wood, but rather a substance within the wood called cellulose?
Cellulose is a substance that is found in wood, as well as in sheet rock, and some other building products. Do you know what else termites eat? You guessed it! Sheet rock! Well…not really the sheet rock, but rather the cellulose that is located within the sheet rock. Most of the homes that we perform termite inspections on have a combination of wood damage, as well as sheet rock damage. It’s normally the sheet rock damage that is the most obvious to the customer, and what prompts them to pick up the phone and call us. By the time they damage the sheet rock though, they have often already done damage to the wood framing within the walls.
Completing a preventative termite treatment on your home will help protect your home, as well as give you piece of mind.
