There are homes that are finished with all types of materials such as wood, stucco, vinyl, brick, etc. Which of these are susceptible to termite infestations and damage? ALL OF THEM! Regardless of the type of finish on the outside, most homes are framed up using lumber. If your house is framed up using lumber, termites can and will eventually find your home. It’s really just a matter of time.
Termites do not only eat wood, but they eat pretty much any type of cellulose product. Did you know that sheet rock (a.k.a your walls) are a cellulose product? Termites will absolutely destroy sheet rock. I have seen it many times.
rA customer of mine had a termite infestation in her home. Her home was built on a solid concrete slab. Anyone that knows anything about concrete knows that there are 2 kinds of concrete. 1) There is concrete that is cracked. 2) There is concrete that WILL crack. There were several different areas of the home where I found active termites. One of the areas was in the middle of the living room. Termites had made their way through the ground, to the middle of the house, up through a crack in the concrete, and into a couple of book cases that she had next to her fireplace. The termites then proceeded to eat through all of her books that she has in the case. I had never before had a case in which I found termites eating books, but if you think about it, books are a cellulose material.
